Common Council Voting on a Continued Extension

Posted by huskadoor on April 2, 2008

Having passed the Planning and Economic Development Committee the possible further extension is now up for a vote on Wednesday by the common council as to whether the park will stay open until Dec. 31. Current plans also will move the fenced area westward and increase the park’s area, so that state mowers can get past the fenced area. A variety of groups voiced their opinions Monday when the mayor invited concerned groups to a discussion.

Posted by huskadoor on December 6, 2007

On Wednesday 12/5/07 the Common Council unanimously voted in the extension to the leash law exemption. This would extend the temporary legal dog park until April 3rd. The extension will not be valid until the fence is erected.

Common Council votes unanimously to reinstate, extend leash-law exemption

Why they changed their votes:
Tomlan:it included the $6,000 fence

Mari Coles:she said that she changed her vote in the spirit of Hanukkah, compromising for the public good. She also mentioned that she hopes they will be able to find a permanent dog park resolution.

Gelina:Gelina believes that people are going to become highly irrational if this extension passes.

Extension Vote

Posted by huskadoor on December 5, 2007

Today at 7:00 PM the Common Council will vote on a proposed extension to the temporary dog park. The result of the vote will be posted on this blog as soon as it is available. The proposed extension would involve:

>Making it legal to have dogs off leash again in the festival lands until April 3rd 2008.

>Constructing a $6,000 temporary fence around the festival lands. Much of the opposition to the park should be solved by building this fence, although others have said that it is pointless to erect a fence to keep the dog’s away from people when the city has acknowledged that dog walkers are the only ones to use the park in the winter.
